Illusion of Recognition No.2

14 x 15 x 21 H (inches)

Forged steel, 2022

Our perception of anything, whether an object, a person, or a moment, is shaped by the conditions in which it reaches us. What something means often depends on what we notice first, what it stirs in memory, and the frame of mind we are in at the time.

We see this constantly. People experience the same thing yet arrive at very different conclusions. We believe we recognize what we are seeing, but we are always seeing through our own lens. That is the illusion of recognition. It can shape our sense of belonging and also our capacity for division.

This series explores abstract forms drawn from my own experiences and perceptions, inviting viewers to notice what the work brings forward in them and perhaps ask why.
